The secret behind the strength of Wibe cable ladders
The hexagonal design of Wibe’s side profiles is key to their exceptional strength, while maintaining a low, space-efficient profile compared to high-sided ladders. This robust geometry enables longer support spans, reducing the number of brackets required and helping installers save valuable time during installation. The original design was developed by one of Wibe’s founders, Anders Wikstrand.

When selecting a cable ladder, consider factors such as cable load, span length, installation environment, corrosion requirements, ease of installation, and future expansion needs. Wibe offers solutions ranging from the lightweight KHZSP to the reinforced KHZV and KHZPV, as well as the ultra heavy-duty KHZP 20C, ensuring a suitable option for virtually every application. For fast installations with long, straight cable runs in C1 and C2 environments, typically commercial buildings, hospitals, schools, and warehouses, the KHZSP ladder combined with the CLX3 support system enables quick and efficient click-installation.
In short, Wibe cable ladders are proven and certified for use in demanding commercial, industrial, infrastructure, marine and offshore environments.
All Wibe cable ladders can be used for both horizontal and vertical cable routing. Vertical installations are particularly common with the standard ladder ranges KHZSP, KHZ and KHZP, which offer an excellent balance of strength, low weight and installation flexibility, making them easier to handle in vertical risers, while reinforced heavy-duty cable ladders are primarily used in horizontal installations where long spans and higher load capacities are required.
Recommended support spacing depends on the cable load, installation conditions and cable ladder type. For many standard installations with normal cable loads, support distances of up to 4 metres are commonly used with KHZSP, KHZ and KHZP cable ladders, while reinforced systems such as KHZV and KHZPV are designed for longer spans and can typically be installed with support spacing of 6 to 9 metres, depending on the load requirements. Always consult the relevant technical documentation to verify load capacities and span recommendations for your specific project.
Wibe Group also partners with Boliden to supply low-carbon zinc for its hot-dip galvanised products, which make up around 40% of Wibe Group’s product sales. This zinc produces less than 1 tonne of CO2 per tonne of zinc, compared with an industry average of around 3.6 tonnes – one of the lowest carbon footprints of any refined zinc in the world. Read more about the Boliden partnership.
Looking ahead, Wibe Group has also agreed with SSAB to supply fossil-free steel for selected cable ladder, cable tray, and mesh tray products. Once available, this could reduce the carbon footprint of these products by up to 90% compared with conventional steel. Initial volumes will be delivered in small batches and gradually scaled up as SSAB expands its production capacity. Read more about the fossil-free steel partnership.
Cable trays feature a continuous or perforated bottom, making them well suited for lighter cable loads, smaller cables and installations where additional cable support is needed. They are commonly used for branch circuits, instrumentation and control cables.
Mesh trays are constructed from a welded wire mesh structure. Their open design provides excellent ventilation and cooling for cables, while also making them easy to cut, shape and adapt on site. This flexibility makes mesh trays particularly useful in confined spaces, data centres and complex installations with many changes in direction.
In many projects, cable ladders, cable trays and mesh trays are used together. Cable ladders are typically used for the main cable routes, while cable trays and mesh trays provide flexible and efficient solutions for branch runs and more complex routing requirements. By combining these systems, it is possible to optimize load capacity, installation speed, cable cooling and overall project efficiency.
